July 31, 2011: High Power Pistol/Revolver Match
This will be for centerfire handgun caliber pistols/revolvers and rifles/carbines shooting knockdown or swinging steel targets of various sizes at different ranges (40 to 100 yards). Knockdown targets must be knocked off the base to score; Movement of swinging targets must be easily visible.
There will be two classes: Open (Iron) Sights and Optical (Scope or Red Dot). Maximum barrel length for pistols/revolvers shall be 10" as measured by standard industry practice: length doesn't include cylinder for revolver but does include chamber for pistols and single shot handguns.
All handgun shooting will be from a bench or sitting. Bench shooting will use support such as sandbags to elevate hands (in front of wrists) and butt of grip above the bench top. Arms and elbows shall not rest on the bench top. Sitting position may have back supported with arms/elbows on legs/knees. Alternatatives to these positions will be made to accommodate shooters so they have an opportunity to participate.
Rifle shooters may use prone, sitting, kneeling, or standing position, their choice. Bring any equipment (e.g. - mat for prone) for the position you choose.
Eye and ear protection are mandatory.
Only one target may be scored as a knockdown or hit per shot. Additional targets knocked over by any means per one shot will be reset. Total number of shots will be 30. Time limit is 20 minutes plus 3 minutes preparation time.
Full power loads are probably not necessary for smaller knockdown targets so reduced power loads are acceptable. Larger targets at longer ranges may require up to full power loads to swing the targets.
This match is designed for .38/.357 and larger caliber handguns and rifles using a balance of power and accuracy for the target size and distance. If you have a handgun (pistol, revolver, single shot) or handgun caliber rifle/carbine, this could be the challenge you've not a chance to try before.
Cost is $3.00 for either handgun or rifle or $5.00 for both.
See Events Schedule page for list of regular matches.
